Muggsy on Monday – a special concert

We’re keeping the Jazz Party spirit alive with an additional concert on Monday 9 November, celebrating Muggsy Spanier.
Muggsy was born in Chicago 125 years ago. To commemorate the occasion, an all-star quartet will revisit some of Spanier’s classic recordings (from the Bucktown Five to the Sidney Bechet-Muggsy Spanier Big Four and more).

A century ago, Spanier rubbed shoulders with Art Tatum, Fats Waller, mobsters and molls. At Yamaha Music School, Blyth, and later at Blaydon Jazz Club, New York-based cornetist Colin Hancock will be
joined by London-based Australian, Michael McQuaid (reeds), from Paris, Félix Hunot (guitar) and from London, Harry Evans (string bass) in a salute to Francis Joseph ‘Muggsy’ Spanier.

Please note: the above concerts are in addition to the Classic Jazz Party. Tickets (£9.00) for the Blyth
concert (1:00-1:45pm) are available from: http://www.neyamaha.uk, the Blaydon concert (8:00pm) is pay on the door (£10.00).

Yamaha Music School, Blyth is approximately 9 miles north of the Village Hotel (NE24 1AY), Blaydon is approximately 17 miles west (NE21 4JJ). First come, first served!
